Neurodevelopmental outcome at 1 year in offspring of women with gestational diabetes mellitus

Xiu-Jie He et al.

Summary: A prospective cohort study of 555 mother-child pairs revealed significant differences in neurodevelopment between GDM patients and pregnant women with normal glucose tolerance, with blood glucose and fatty acids being associated with neurodevelopmental outcomes. Control of blood glucose and lipids during pregnancy, as well as appropriate supplementation of DHA in the second half of pregnancy, may benefit infant neurodevelopment.

Complex patterns of circulating fatty acid levels in gestational diabetes mellitus subclasses across pregnancy

Ting Zhang et al.

Summary: The study suggests a relationship between maternal serum fatty acid levels and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) subtypes, with different fatty acid levels observed in different GDM subtypes during pregnancy. Specifically, higher levels of ALA and DHA in early pregnancy are associated with an increased risk of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) GDM subtype.
