Adsorption of redox-active Schiff bases and corrosion inhibiting property for mild steel in 1 molL-1 H2SO4: Experimental analysis supported by ab initio DFT, DFTB and molecular dynamics simulation approach

Sirsendu Sengupta et al.

Summary: The synthesized Schiff base molecules show excellent corrosion inhibition properties for mild steels immersed in 1 mol L(-1) H2SO4 solution, forming a protective layer over the metal surface. Surface studies and elemental characterizations confirm the formation of corrosion protection layers. The adsorption capability and spontaneity of the synthesized inhibitors were explained based on experimental findings, density functional theory, and Fukui indices analysis.

Summary: Efficient and green corrosion inhibitors have drawn attention for their wide application, but the understanding of their mechanism is limited. A Schiff base BDEA was synthesized and proved to effectively protect X80 steel from corrosion with a maximum efficiency of 94.26%. Surface analysis showed better protection with BDEA.

Corrosion behavior of zirconium-pretreated/epoxy-coated mild steel: New approach for determination of cathodic disbondment resistance by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy

M. Golabadi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective performance of zirconium-pretreated epoxy films with and without zinc sulfate additive in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. A new parameter based on EIS tests for the scratched samples was introduced to determine the amount of corrosive electrolyte diffusing into the coating/substrate interface, attributed to cathodic disbondment resistance. It was revealed that coating segregation was reduced via surface pretreating by zirconium with additives.

Improvement of wear and corrosion protection of PEO on AA2024 via sol-gel sealing

Luciane Sopchenski et al.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid sol-gel was successfully used to seal the porosity of PEO coatings, improving corrosion resistance and reducing wear rate. The sol-gel filling effectively changed the wettability of the coatings, showing promising results in enhancing the protective properties of light metals.

N,N′-Bis-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine functionalized graphene oxide (NAEP-GO) as an effective green corrosion inhibitor for simulated acidizing environment

Kabiru Haruna et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the corrosion inhibition efficacy of NAEP-GO against carbon steel in 15% HCl, finding a maximum inhibition efficiency of 87% at room temperature for 25 ppm NAEP-GO. SEM/EDS, AFM and FT-IR analyses confirmed the adsorption of NAEP-GO molecules on the steel surface to form a protective film that blocked corrosion. The study is important for addressing corrosion and waste disposal issues, as GO was prepared from waste graphite.
