Receptor-Mediated ER Export of Lipoproteins Controls Lipid Homeostasis in Mice and Humans

Xiao Wang et al.

Summary: The efficient delivery of specific cargos in vivo is quantitatively regulated by the GTPase SAR1B and the high-efficiency cargo receptor SURF4. Hepatic inactivation of Sar1b or Surf4 in mice selectively depletes plasma lipids to near-zero levels and protects the mice from atherosclerosis. These findings suggest a specialized, dosage-sensitive transport program for circulating lipids that may have potential therapeutic implications for atherosclerosis and related cardio-metabolic diseases.

Cargo receptor-assisted endoplasmic reticulum export of pathogenic α1-antitrypsin polymers

Adriana Ordonez et al.

Summary: The study explored the cellular factors affecting the secretion of circulating polymers of alpha 1-antitrypsin, finding that cargo receptors LMAN1 and SURF4 are crucial for polymer secretion. Disruption of these receptors leads to a defect in alpha 1-antitrypsin secretion, particularly polymers, indicating their important role in regulating the process.
