Airway mucin MUC5AC and MUC5B concentrations and the initiation and progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: an analysis of the SPIROMICS cohort

Giorgia Radicioni et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relative contribution of MUC5AC and MUC5B to airways disease in COPD, revealing increased MUC5AC concentration as a potential biomarker for COPD initiation, progression, and exacerbation risk. MUC5AC concentration showed greater sensitivity to COPD severity and could be a target for future therapeutic strategies.
