SPVdF-HFP/SGO nanohybrid proton exchange membrane for the applications of direct methanol fuel cells

Ranganathan Hariprasad et al.

Summary: The SPVdF-HFP/SGO hybrid membrane prepared by incorporating sulfonated graphene oxide (SGO) nanosheets into the sulfonated poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (SPVdF-HFP) matrix showed improved water uptake, proton conductivity, reduced methanol uptake, and swelling ratio compared to pristine SPVdF-HFP membrane. The electrostatic interaction between the membrane backbone and SGO skeleton helped to retain lower weight loss during TGA analysis. The hybrid membrane exhibited promising proton conductivity and low methanol permeability, making it a potential candidate for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) applications.

Physicochemical characterization of low sulfonated polyether ether ketone/Smectite clay composite for proton exchange membrane fuel cells

Zakarya Ahmed et al.

Summary: The study blended low sulfonation degree polyether ether ketone (PEEK) with different proportions of sodium-rich Smectite clay to use as an electrolyte membrane for fuel cell application. The composite membranes showed higher thermal stability, lower crystallinity, and increased conductivity, making them potential candidates for methanol fuel cells at temperatures above 120 degrees C, competitive to Nafion membrane.

Synthesis and characterization of conductive polymer coated graphitic carbon nitride embedded sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) membranes for direct methanol fuel cell applications

Lukka Thuyavan Yogarathinam et al.

Summary: This study incorporated conductive polyaniline deposited oxidized graphitic carbon nitride into sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) membrane for direct methanol fuel cell applications. The functionalized membrane showed improved water uptake capacity, ion exchange capacity, lower methanol permeability, higher proton conductivity, and higher oxidative stability. These results demonstrate the potential of the modified membrane as a superior nanofiller for PEM modification in DMFC applications.

Functionalized boron nitride embedded sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) proton exchange membrane for direct methanol fuel cell applications

Lukka Thuyavan Yogarathinam et al.

Summary: Nanostructured materials, such as polyaniline coated activated boron nitride, have been embedded in sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) membranes to enhance proton conductivity and reduce methanol permeability in direct methanol fuel cell applications. The addition of functionalized boron nitride improves water uptake, ion exchange capacity, and chemical stability of the membranes, while significantly reducing methanol permeability. These nanocomposite membranes exhibit improved performance compared to commercial Nafion membranes, with higher open circuit voltage and power density.
