Bending, free vibration, and buckling responses of chopped carbon fiber/graphene nanoplatelet-reinforced polymer hybrid composite plates: An inclusive microstructural assessment

A. Bakamal et al.

Summary: The finite element analysis of chopped carbon fiber/graphene nanoplatelet reinforced polymer hybrid composite plates shows that the microstructural features significantly influence the mechanical behaviors. The addition of graphene nanoplatelets improves the stability of the composite structures, while agglomeration of graphene leads to a degradation in mechanical performances. Aligning the carbon fibers can significantly decrease deflections and improve critical buckling loads and natural frequencies of hybrid composite plates.

Axial and lateral buckling analysis of kevlar/epoxy fiber-reinforced composite laminates incorporating silica nanoparticles

Ozkan Ozbek

Summary: In this study, the experimental effect of silica nanoparticles on the buckling characteristics of Kevlar/epoxy fiber reinforced composite laminates was determined. Results showed that incorporation of NS particles led to increased critical buckling load values, with 1.5 wt% NS content showing the highest values. However, excessive NS content resulted in decreased critical buckling loads due to poor interfacial bonding and agglomeration.

Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Graphene Nanoplatelets-Reinforced Epoxy Nanocomposites: Comparison of Different Dispersal Mechanisms

Ming-Yuan Shen et al.

Summary: This study utilized planetary centrifugal mixing and three-roll milling as efficient dispersion methods to uniformly disperse graphene nanoplatelets in an epoxy solution, resulting in the preparation of graphene nanoplatelets/epoxy nanocomposites. The measurements of mechanical properties showed that planetary centrifugal mixing required shorter processing time and achieved a more uniform dispersion compared to three-roll milling, making it a more efficient dispersal method for epoxy-based nanocomposites preparation.

Determination of mechanical properties of polymer matrix composites reinforced with electrospinning N66, PAN, PVA and PVC nanofibers: A comparative study

Emin Uslu et al.

Summary: This study focused on the production and mechanical properties of two-phase polymer matrix composites reinforced with various types of thermoplastic nanofibers. The best mechanical properties were obtained from N66 nanofiber composite, while PVA nanofiber composite showed the highest Young's modulus. The polymer type significantly affected the composite performance, with N66 composite being more stable and reproducible compared to other specimens.

Acoustic radiation and transmission loss of FG-Graphene composite plate under nonuniform edge loading

Vijay Gunasekaran et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of nonuniform edge loads on the acoustic response of a functionally graded graphene reinforced composite plate. The nature of edge load variation significantly affects buckling and vibro-acoustic response, especially for plates with a higher aspect ratio. Changes in edge load also impact the free vibration mode shape and resonant amplitude of responses.
