Synthesis, physical, optical, mechanical, and radiation attenuation properties of TiO2-Na2O-Bi2O3-B2O3 glasses

A. S. Abouhaswa et al.

Summary: A series of bismuth-borate glass samples doped with TiO2 were fabricated and investigated for their physical, optical, and mechanical properties, as well as their gamma and neutron shielding capabilities. The addition of TiO2 increased the density of the glass samples, decreased their molar volume, and enhanced their absorbance. These glass samples demonstrate utility for diagnostic gamma shielding and their properties make them effective in protecting humans from UV light.

The influence of MgO on the radiation protection and mechanical properties of tellurite glasses

M. Y. Hanfi et al.

Summary: The mechanical moduli and microhardness of TeO2-MgO glasses were theoretically calculated using the Makishimae-Mackenzie model, showing improved properties with higher MgO content. The radiation shielding capacity of the studied glasses was evaluated, with TM10 glass exhibiting the highest linear attenuation coefficient and TM45 glass showing the lowest value. The BXCOM program was used to calculate the effective atomic number and buildup factors of the glasses, as well as the effective removal cross-section for fast neutrons.

Monte Carlo simulation of radiation shielding properties of the glass system containing Bi2O3

Iskender Akkurt et al.

Summary: Monte Carlo simulation is an important tool for obtaining material parameters when experiments are not possible, and the study of radiation shielding is crucial for various fields. Research on the radiation shielding properties of materials like glass is a popular subject, and simulations can be compared with calculation results to analyze their effectiveness.

Monte Carlo simulation study on TeO2-Bi2O-PbO-MgO-B2O3 glass for neutron-gamma 252Cf source

Roya Boodaghi Malidarre et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the neutron-gamma attenuation characteristics of TeO2-Bi2O-PbO-MgO-B2O3 glasses using MCNPX simulation and theoretical calculations. The glass sample TePbMg5 exhibits superior shielding ability compared to other materials. Various attenuation parameters and gamma spectrum for shielding materials were analyzed to evaluate the performance of the glasses in shielding neutron and gamma radiation.

Monte Carlo simulations study on gamma ray-neutron shielding characteristics for vinyl ester composites

Iskender Akkurt et al.

Summary: The study aimed to report the gamma ray-neutron attenuation parameters of eight types of vinyl ester pumice (V-P) composites across a wide energy range of 511-2140 keV using MCNPX and FLUKA codes. Results showed that FLUKA code can be used as an alternative technique to determine the attenuation features of vinyl ester composites, and the composite coded as V-P50 can be a competitive candidate for shielding gamma rays and neutrons.

Monte Carlo simulation on shielding properties of neutron-gamma from 252Cf source for Alumino-Boro-Silicate glasses

Roya Boodaghi Malidarre et al.

Summary: The neutron-gamma attenuation characteristics of ABS glasses were studied using MCNPX simulation and theoretical calculations, showing ABS-0 as an appropriate material for neutron attenuation. Increasing Bi2O3 content decreases the neutron shielding ability of ABS glass. Additionally, ABS-4 glass sample exhibited the highest gamma shielding efficiency among the tested samples.
