Effects of sorbitol on the production of phenolic compounds and terpenoids in the cell suspension cultures ofOcimum basilicumL.

Muhammed A. Acikgoz

Summary: This study explored the effects of sorbitol treatments on cell suspension cultures of Ocimum basilicum L., finding that sorbitol can enhance the production of phenolic compounds and terpenoids. Antioxidant activities were improved with 50 mg/L sorbitol treatment, while flavonoid content was highest with 200 mg/L treatment. High accumulations of specific compounds were observed with different sorbitol concentrations, indicating a potential for improving secondary metabolite production in O. basilicum.
