Numerical investigation of the stability of mixed convection in a differentially heated vertical porous slab

B. M. Shankar et al.

Summary: The stability of mixed convection in a vertical porous slab with different temperature vertical walls in the presence of gravity was investigated. It was found that stationary instability disappears in the presence of a pressure gradient, showing that the system is unconditionally stable.

Instability of natural convection in a vertical fluid layer with net horizontal throughflow

B. M. Shankar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of uniform horizontal throughflow on the linear stability of buoyancy-driven convection in a vertical fluid layer, analyzing the instability to small-amplitude perturbations by parameterizing the basic stationary flow. The results highlight the dependence of the stability of fluid flow on the values of Prandtl number, with a particular focus on the critical values of wave number, wave speed, and Grashof number for different prescribed values of the governing parameters.

Benchmark solution for the stability of plane Couette flow with net throughflow

B. M. Shankar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the stability of incompressible viscous fluid flow between moving horizontal parallel plates with a uniform vertical throughflow. Contrary to plane Couette flow, the presence of throughflow causes instability in the flow due to changes in the growth rate. The direction of throughflow does not affect the stability of the fluid flow, and throughflow has both stabilizing and destabilizing effects on the base flow.
