Numerical study of droplet evaporation on heated flat and micro-pillared hydrophobic surfaces by using the lattice Boltzmann method

Shaojun Dou et al.

Summary: The evaporation processes of sessile droplets on both heated flat and structured hydrophobic surfaces were numerically studied using a thermal multi-phase lattice Boltzmann model. The research simulated the contact-line dynamics and heat transfer during droplet evaporation, and investigated the effects of substrate heat conductivity, wettability, and roughness. It was found that the different evaporation modes of droplets on rough surfaces were due to the microscopic stick-slip motion of the contact line, with surfaces exhibiting higher hydrophobicity and smaller solid fractions more likely to undergo evaporation in the constant contact angle mode.

Wetting boundary conditions for multicomponent pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann

Rodrigo C. V. Coelho et al.

Summary: The implementation of boundary conditions in modeling fluid flow is challenging, particularly in dealing with liquid-wall interactions. Existing methods using multicomponent Lattice Boltzmann are accurate when the wall is aligned with the main axes of the lattice but fail otherwise. To address this issue, a strategy developed for multiphase models is extended, with particular relevance for binary flows in complex geometries.

Nanoparticles deposition patterns in evaporating nanofluid droplets on smooth heated hydrophilic substrates: A 2D immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann simulation

Dongmin Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the dynamics and patterns of nanoparticles deposition in evaporating nanofluid droplets on a smooth hydrophilic heated substrate under zero gravity conditions. It found that Marangoni flow on the droplet interface was the dominant transportation mechanism for nanoparticles. The deposition patterns after droplet evaporation were influenced by the substrate contact angle and temperature, resulting in either ring-like or bump-like patterns based on the pinning of the triple phase contact line and strength of Marangoni flow.
