Stochastic order parameter dynamics for phase coexistence in heat conduction

Shin-ichi Sasa et al.

Summary: A stochastic order parameter model is proposed to describe phase coexistence in steady heat conduction near equilibrium. By analyzing stochastic dynamics with a nonequilibrium adiabatic boundary condition, a variational principle is derived to determine thermodynamic properties in nonequilibrium steady states. The resulting principle suggests the appearance of superheated ordered (supercooled disordered) states near the interface, under certain conditions.
