Topologically stable, finite-energy electroweak-scale monopoles

P. Q. Hung

Summary: The paper proposes a model where a topologically stable monopole with a mass proportional to the electroweak scale could exist. This model involves neutrino masses, with right-handed neutrinos being non-sterile and their Majorana masses obtained through coupling with a complex triplet Higgs field. A real Higgs triplet is introduced to ensure custodial symmetry.

Evaluation of candidate models for the 13th generation International Geomagnetic Reference Field

P. Alken et al.

Summary: The 13th revision of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) was released in December 2019, comprising two new main field models and a model of predicted secular variation. These models were produced from candidates submitted by fifteen international teams. The evaluation process, final product derivation approach, and retrospective analysis of the IGRF-12 SV candidates are documented in this study, suggesting potential benefits of combining core modeling with satellite observations for forecasting secular variation.

Comments on magnetic black holes

Juan Maldacena

Summary: Various aspects of magnetically charged black holes in the Standard Model are discussed, with the argument that electroweak symmetry may be restored in the near horizon region for a range of charges. The presence of fermions with integer magnetic charge Q leads to massless two dimensional fermions moving along magnetic field lines, significantly enhancing Hawking radiation effects.

Astrophysical hints for magnetic black holes

Diptimoy Ghosh et al.

Summary: We discuss various potential astrophysical signatures and constraints on magnetically charged black holes of different masses, highlighting their immense electromagnetic fields and their potential as windows to fundamental physics. The investigation includes limits on charges, stable orbits, horizons, galactic magnetic fields and dark matter measurements, electromagnetic fluxes, and gravitational wave emissions during binary inspirals. The distinct features of electromagnetic emissions and gravitational waveform evolution during binary inspirals are also considered.
