Probing Fundamental Symmetries of Deformed Nuclei in Symmetric Top Molecules

Phelan Yu et al.

Summary: Precision measurements of Schiff moments in heavy, deformed nuclei provide sensitive probes of beyond standard model T, P violation in the hadronic sector. While diamagnetic atoms have set the most stringent limits on Schiff moments to date, polar polyatomic molecules offer higher sensitivities, with symmetric top molecular ions as a promising platform for sensitive searches. The unique properties of these molecules, such as full polarization at low fields and rejection of systematic effects, make them ideal for studying fundamental symmetry violation.

Optical Mass Spectrometry of Cold RaOH+ and RaOCH3+

M. Fan et al.

Summary: A novel all-optical mass spectrometry technique has been introduced for identifying trapped ions using laser-cooled ions with high resolution in a short time. This method was successfully applied to identify cold, trapped RaOH+ and RaOCH3+ ions, which are sensitive to time and parity violations. The nondestructive nature and high speed of this technique make it promising for identifying molecular ions prior to optical spectroscopy and studying chemical reactions in ion traps.
