Tunable strongly coupled superconductivity in magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene

Jeong Min Park et al.

Summary: Moire superlattices have become a platform for studying correlated physics and superconductivity with unprecedented tunability. This study on magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene reveals a better tunability of electronic structure and superconducting properties than magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, with implications for the understanding of strongly coupled superconductivity. The results suggest that the system can be electrically tuned close to the crossover to a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate, indicating the potential for revolutionizing applications of superconductivity.

Electric field-tunable superconductivity in alternating-twist magic-angle trilayer graphene

Zeyu Hao et al.

Summary: By constructing a van der Waals heterostructure with three stacked graphene layers at alternating twist angles, researchers observed tunable superconductivity at a specific twist angle. The superconducting regions are associated with flavor polarization of moire bands and are bounded by a van Hove singularity at high displacement fields, indicating unconventional moire superconductivity.

Nematicity and competing orders in superconducting magic-angle graphene

Yuan Cao et al.

Summary: In magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, intertwined phases with broken rotational symmetry have been identified, showing strong thermodynamic anisotropy and appearing above the underdoped region of the superconducting dome. A reduction in critical temperature is observed when it intersects with the superconducting dome, with the superconducting state exhibiting anisotropic response to in-plane magnetic fields, suggesting nematic ordering plays a significant role in the low-temperature phases of magic-angle TBG.

Coulomb interaction, phonons, and superconductivity in twisted bilayer graphene

Tommaso Cea et al.

Summary: The polarizability of twisted bilayer graphene, influenced by electron-hole pairs, plasmons, and acoustic phonons, allows for the formation of Cooper pairs and superconductivity through screened Coulomb interaction. The coupling between longitudinal phonons and electron-hole pairs enhances the tendency towards superconductivity. Umklapp processes involving large momentum transfers play a crucial role in the formation of Cooper pairs, resulting in varying magnitudes of the superconducting gap on the Fermi surface.

Mirror symmetry breaking and lateral stacking shifts in twisted trilayer graphene

Chao Lei et al.

Summary: Researchers constructed a continuum model to study twisted trilayer graphene and found that mirror symmetry plays a key role in electronic properties. They calculated characteristics such as the Drude weight and weak-field Hall conductivity, and evaluated the influence of accidental lateral stacking shifts on electronic properties in experimental devices. They also discussed the possible importance of these shifts for superconductivity in twisted trilayers.

Spin-polarized superconductivity: Order parameter topology, current dissipation, and multiple-period Josephson effect

Eyal Cornfeld et al.

Summary: This article discusses the transport properties of fully spin-polarized triplet superconductors, where only one spin component of electrons is paired. Due to the intertwined structure of the order parameter space, the possibility of supercurrent relaxation by smooth deformation of the order parameter is opened, leading to the formation of spin texture. When a voltage is applied, an unusual alternating-current Josephson effect with a period that is an integer multiple of the usual Josephson period is observed.
