Sphingosine-1-Phosphate Attenuates Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Pericyte Loss via Activation of Rho-A and MRTF-A

Farah Abdel Rahman et al.

Summary: In sepsis, S1P acts as an antagonist to pericyte loss, vascular hyperpermeability, and systemic hypotension, resulting in increased survival in mice. By preserving the deposition of VE-cadherin and N-cadherin, S1P may achieve this effect through reduction of protein phosphorylation and increased nuclear translocation of MRTF-A.

ATP induces contraction of cultured brain capillary pericytes via activation of P2Y-type purinergic receptors

Sofie Horlyck et al.

Summary: The study shows that ATP induces contraction of brain capillary pericytes through stimulation of purinergic receptors, mainly mediated by activation of P2Y receptor subtypes, including P2Y(1) and P2Y(2), leading to release of intracellular calcium concentration. This provides more mechanistic understanding of pericytes' role in regulating capillary blood flow, highlighting P2Y receptors as potential therapeutic targets.

Potential Mechanisms and Effects of Efferocytosis in Atherosclerosis

Lili Wang et al.

Summary: Atherosclerosis is the main pathological basis for cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, with abnormal accumulation of apoptotic and necrotic cells leading to plaque formation and rupture. The efficiency of phagocytosis of apoptotic cells in AS is low, and recent research has made progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms involved.

Role of Apoptotic Cell Clearance in Pneumonia and Inflammatory Lung Disease

David Jiao Zheng et al.

Summary: Pneumonia and other inflammatory diseases of the lungs share failures in efferocytosis as a common driver of inflammation and tissue destruction. Enhancing efferocytosis can help resolve inflammatory lung diseases and restore normal lung function. Treatments like corticosteroids and statins have been found to beneficially alter efferocytic activity in patients with these diseases.
