Characterisation of paediatric pulmonary hypertensive vascular disease from the PPHNet Registry

Steven H. Abman et al.

Summary: The study found a significant proportion of pediatric PH patients with Group 3 disorders, reflecting the growing recognition of PH in diverse developmental lung diseases. Greater precision of clinical phenotyping based on disease-specific characterization may further enhance care and research of pediatric PH.

Fate of pulmonary hypertension associated with bronchopulmonary dysplasia beyond 36 weeks postmenstrual age

Sanne Arjaans et al.

Summary: In this study, extremely premature infants with PH-BPD had a survival rate of 58% at 6 months corrected age, with suprasystemic pulmonary artery pressure associated with poor outcome. Almost all cases showed excellent survival and resolution of PH in infants surviving beyond 6 months corrected age.

Pulmonary hypertension in bronchopulmonary dysplasia

Georg Hansmann et al.

Summary: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a major complication in prematurely born infants, and pulmonary hypertension (PH) associated with BPD (BPD-PH) is linked to high mortality rates. Recent advancements in adult pulmonary hypertension treatment have opened up new options for children with BPD-PH, but there is still a lack of pediatric data, necessitating further research.

Central airway issues in bronchopulmonary dysplasia

Erik B. Hysinger

Summary: There is a lack of focus on central airway disease in neonates with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), despite efforts to minimize alveolar damage. Premature birth disrupts natural central airway development, leading to smaller, more compliant, and susceptible airways. Central airway disease increases respiratory morbidity in premature infants with chronic lung disease.
