Oligosilanes as Silyl Radical Precursors through Oxidative Si-Si Bond Cleavage Using Redox Catalysis

Xiaoye Yu et al.

Summary: This study explores a highly efficient visible-light-mediated hydrosilylation of electron-deficient alkenes through cleavage of a trimethylsilyl-polysilanyl Si-Si bond. The method exhibits broad substrate scope and high functional group tolerance, enabling the construction of functionalized trisilanes.

Visible Light-Induced Cascade Cyclization of 3-Aminoindazoles, Ynals, and Chalcogens: Access to Chalcogen-Containing Pyrimido[1,2-b]-indazoles

Jinlei Zhou et al.

Summary: A direct cascade cyclization of 3-aminoindazoles, ynals, and accessible chalcogens facilitated by visible light has been developed. Fluoroactive selenium/tellurium-substituted pyrimido[1,2-b]-indazoles were easily accessed in moderate to good yields with a broad scope, and the spectral properties of selenide pyrimido[1,2-b]-indazoles prepared by this method were surveyed.

Sulfonylation of Aryl Halides by Visible Light/Copper Catalysis

Qiuli Yan et al.

Summary: An efficient visible-light-assisted, copper-catalyzed sulfonylation of aryl halides with sulfinates is reported, using a single ligand Cu-I photocatalyst formed in situ for the transformation. Diverse organosulfones were obtained in moderate to good yields, demonstrating a promising approach toward the synthesis of diverse and useful organosulfones.

Visible-Light-Mediated Divergent Silylfunctionalization of Alkenes

Ming Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents a visible-light-mediated divergent 1,2-silylfunctionalization of alkenes under ambient conditions, yielding a variety of silanes including beta-alkoxy, beta-alkylthio, beta-hydroxy, and beta-indolyl silanes. Vinylsilanes were also successfully prepared without the need for an additional nucleophile.

The dioxasilepanyl group as a versatile organometallic unit: studies on stability, reactivity, and utility

Hayate Saito et al.

Summary: The study established a new silicon-based synthetic methodology centered on the stability and reactivity of a bulky 7-membered dialkoxysilyl group. Experimental and computational studies confirmed the exceptional stability of this functional group, with key factors being the 7-membered structure and steric hindrance. The group was found to become reactive in the presence of appropriate activators, allowing for a more efficient synthesis of bioactive molecules.

Facile synthesis of tribenzosilepins from terphenyls and dihydrosilanes by electrophilic double silylation

Yafang Dong et al.

Summary: Tribenzosilepins were synthesized efficiently from terphenyls and dihydrosilanes using a double sila-Friedel-Crafts reaction. The reaction system was capable of producing bidirectional silepin derivatives, and the transformation of amino groups to aryl groups as well as extension of the pi-system in tribenzosilepin were demonstrated.

Visible-light-induced silylation: an update

Sumit Ghosh et al.

Summary: Over the past two decades, visible-light-driven functionalization of various organic systems has achieved great success, reaching impressive levels of complexity and efficiency. Organosilicon compounds are significant due to their promising applications in various fields and they are known for being cheap, easily handled, highly stable, and less toxic. Therefore, there is now a high demand for environmentally friendly synthetic approaches, such as visible-light-induced silylation, for molecule construction with C-Si bonds.
