Baclofen attenuates fMRI alcohol cue reactivity in treatment-seeking alcohol dependent individuals

Warren B. Logge et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of baclofen on alcohol cue-elicited activation in alcohol-dependent treatment seekers, showing reduced activation in key drug cue reactivity regions after baclofen administration. The results suggest a dose-specific response effect that may lead to reduced heavy drinking in chronic alcohol-dependent individuals.

A meta-analysis of tract-based spatial statistics studies examining white matter integrity in cocaine use disorder

Robert Suchting et al.

Summary: This study used seed-based mapping to investigate the differences in white matter integrity between cocaine users and healthy controls, finding lower fractional anisotropy in the genu of the corpus callosum for cocaine users. Sensitivity analyses supported the robustness of the obtained differences, while differences detected at exploratory thresholds for significance suggested compromised white matter integrity extending beyond the corpus callosum.

The Ever-Changing OFC Landscape: What Neural Signals in OFC Can Tell Us About Inhibitory Control

Adam T. Brockett et al.

Summary: Despite decades of research on OFC function, the exact role of OFC remains unclear. While earlier hypotheses suggested its involvement in inhibitory control, recent studies have proposed a role for OFC in the representation of task or state space. New evidence also supports a role for OFC in inhibitory control tasks, but further research is needed to integrate these findings into existing frameworks.

Long-Term Cocaine Self-administration Produces Structural Brain Changes That Correlate With Altered Cognition

Hank P. Jedema et al.

Summary: The study confirms that long-term cocaine use leads to regional changes in GMD in the brain, resulting in cognitive impairments. These changes persist following abstinence and may increase the risk of relapse after extended periods of withdrawal.

A double-blind sham-controlled phase 1 clinical trial of tDCS of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in cocaine inpatients: Craving, sleepiness, and contemplation to change

Pierre-Olivier Gaudreault et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the feasibility of a longer tDCS protocol in CUD and replicate previous results. Results showed a trend for decreased self-reported craving in the real-tDCS group, while quality of life and impulsivity improved over time in both groups. Significant improvements in daytime sleepiness and readiness to change drug use were observed only in the real-tDCS group, suggesting potential benefits of tDCS in enhancing executive functions supported by the dlPFC.

Computational theory-driven studies of reinforcement learning and decision-making in addiction: what have we learned?

Maelle C. M. Gueguen et al.

Summary: Computational psychiatry offers a new approach to linking addictive behaviors to cognitive and neurobiological factors, but current research is limited in capturing addiction cycles/states dynamically and focusing on only a few behavioral variables at a time. A longitudinal and multidimensional examination of value-based processes could provide a more comprehensive understanding of addiction and help in developing tailored and timely interventions.

Attention bias modification in drug addiction: Enhancing control of subsequent habits

Summary: The study found that cognitive reappraisal can reduce spontaneous attention bias to drug-related cues in cocaine-addicted individuals, especially in those with less recent use. These results reveal the mechanisms underlying the disruption of automatized maladaptive drug-related attention bias in cocaine addiction.
