Probing local electrochemistry via mechanical cyclic voltammetry curves

Wan-Yu Tsai et al.

Summary: In this study, the electro-chemo-mechanical coupling behaviors of WO3 electrodes during charge storage were visualized using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and the concept of mechanical cyclic voltammetry (mCV) curves was developed. The relationship between electrochemical current and strain was investigated, revealing potential changes in the proton insertion/deinsertion process. Local heterogeneity in charging processes across the electrode was highlighted, which could be correlated to local morphology, crystal orientations, or chemical compositions with proper electrode design.
