Summary: The intercalation of alkali metals in 2D TMDCs leads to a structural phase transition from 2H to 1T', offering access to novel phases with attractive physical and chemical properties. However, the mechanism of this phase transition at the atomic level and the effects of various factors on the transition remain unclear. Further research is suggested to gain a better understanding of the intercalation-induced phase transition and to explore new functional phases in 2D materials.
