Flexible aqueous lithium-ion batteries with ultrahigh areal capacity and long cycle life

Y. Zhou et al.

Summary: A facile and scalable infiltration method was used to fabricate free-standing three-dimensional flexible electrodes, exemplified by LiTi2(PO4)(3) and LiMn2O4, for aqueous Li-ion batteries. The flexible electrodes exhibited high areal capacity, high rate capability, and stable cycling stability, as well as high mechanical and electrochemical stability. This work offers a low-cost and effective strategy to fabricate high areal capacity electrodes with stable electrochemical performance, high mechanical strength, and excellent flexibility.

Challenges in Solvent-Free Methods for Manufacturing Electrodes and Electrolytes for Lithium-Based Batteries

Nina Verdier et al.

Summary: The challenges of lithium battery manufacturing lie in cost and environmental impact. Solvent-casting method is commonly used but has disadvantages. Solvent-free processes, including heat-based and spray-based methods, show promise in developing cost-effective and environmentally friendly lithium batteries. Among these methods, hot-pressing and melt processing are the most commonly used alternatives for both polymer-based electrolytes and electrodes.
