Tailoring Single- and Double-Sided Fluorination of Bilayer Graphene via Substrate Interactions

Jangyup Son et al.

Summary: The study explores functionalization of multilayer graphene and demonstrates a method to fabricate fluorinated bilayer graphene through tailoring substrate interactions. The type of functionalization affects electronic properties, with double-sided fluorinated bilayer graphene showing insulating behavior and single-sided fluorinated graphene maintaining conductivity.

Dual Role of Adsorbent and Non-monotonic Transfer p-Doping of Diamond

Summayya Kouser et al.

Summary: Exposure to oxygen can be harmful for materials and devices, but in certain cases, oxygen adsorption can play a key role in the surface conductivity of diamond. The impact of oxygen in different states on the transfer doping of diamond varies, explaining the non-monotonic carrier density dependence on exposure to oxygen. Additionally, ozone may be more effective for p-type doping of H-diamond due to its lower LUMO energy levels compared to molecular O-2.

Moire diamanes based on the hydrogenated or fluorinated twisted bigraphene: The features of atomic and electronic structures, Raman and infrared spectra

Leonid A. Chernozatonskii et al.

Summary: By utilizing density functional theory, the study predicted the atomic and electronic structures, Raman, and IR spectra of the new diamond-like 2D materials known as Moire diamanes. The calculations revealed that these twisted diamanes have band gaps higher than standard diamanes, making them suitable for optical and optoelectronic devices, and exhibit blue-shifted Raman frequencies compared to traditionally stacked arrangements.

Mechanical Properties of a Single-Layer Diamane under Tension and Bending

Yong-Chao Wu et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties of a single-layer diamond-diamane under tensile and bending deformation were investigated through atomistic simulations. The stacking sequence had negligible influence, with fracture mainly occurring along the zigzag direction. Young's modulus and fracture strain/strength decrease with increasing temperature, and their relationship can be described by the kinetic fracture theory. Additionally, diamane exhibits high bending stiffness, around 3600 eV A, establishing a fundamental understanding for its usage in advanced nanodevices.

Pressure-Induced Formation and Mechanical Properties of 2D Diamond Boron Nitride

Filippo Cellini et al.

Summary: Understanding phase transformations in 2D materials is crucial for advancements in nanotechnology. Experiments and simulations have shown that applying local pressure can induce the formation of a diamond BN phase on h-BN, which remains metastable upon pressure release. Furthermore, the indentation stiffness of h-BN on SiO2 varies with pressure and number of layers, providing insights into the mechanical properties of 2D materials.

Hard, transparent, sp3-containing 2D phase formed from few-layer graphene under compression

Luiz G. Pimenta Martins et al.

Summary: Researchers successfully compressed few-layer graphene samples in water to form a hard, transparent, sp(3)-containing 2D phase. Raman spectroscopy data showed a similar critical pressure for the new phase and graphene/graphite, as well as a lack of evidence of significant pressure gradients or non-hydrostatic stress components.

Liquid-phase exfoliation of F-diamane-like nanosheets

Xianjue Chen et al.

Summary: Fluorinated single-layer diamond (F-diamond), a new form of 2D carbon allotrope, has been synthesized and exfoliated to yield well-dispersed ultrathin sheets composed of stacked layers of F-diamane. Microscopic and spectroscopic analyses confirmed the retention of the F-diamane-like structure in the exfoliated nanosheets, a finding supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Atomistic insights on the pressure-induced multi-layer graphene to diamond-like structure transformation

Peng Geng et al.

Summary: Recent research suggests that bilayer graphene can transform into a diamond-like structure under pressure, while this transformation is suppressed in multi-layer graphene beyond two layers. The stacking of layers like ABA may hinder the transformation, whereas stacking faults like ABC can catalyze the high-pressure transformation of multilayer graphene to diamond.
