Distinct Features of Atmospheric Rivers in the Early Versus Late East Asian Summer Monsoon and Their Impacts on Monsoon Rainfall

Chanil Park et al.

Summary: The study investigates the atmospheric river (AR) and its impact on monsoon rainfall in East Asia. It found that the characteristics of AR vary from the early to late period of the East Asian summer monsoon, with different influencing factors during each period. Early- and late-EASM ARs both contribute substantially to monsoon rainfall, especially to heavy rainfall events.

A Multi-Inventory Ensemble Analysis of the Effects of Atmospheric Rivers on Precipitation and Streamflow in the Namgang-Dam Basin in Korea

Young Ryu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the impacts of atmospheric rivers on storms, precipitation, streamflow, and runoff coefficient in the Namgang-dam basin in Korea from 2000 to 2013. The results showed that atmospheric rivers played a dominant role in storm frequency and water contribution, closely related to the seasonal variations in the East Asian monsoon and North Pacific storm track. Additionally, atmospheric river storms were found to produce more extreme events and higher precipitation and streamflow compared to non-atmospheric river storms.
