Detection of faint stars near Sagittarius A* with GRAVITY

R. Abuter et al.

Summary: The research team used the GRAVITY tool to observe Sgr A* over a period of six months in 2019 and discovered a slowly moving star with a K-band magnitude of 18.9. Additionally, stars such as S29 with a K-band magnitude of 16.6 were easily detected in observations in August and September 2019. Planned upgrades to GRAVITY and improvements in calibration provide increased chances of finding fainter stars below a K-band magnitude of 19.
