Tunable Photocontrolled Motions of Anil-Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Systems through Excited-State Intramolecular Proton Transfer and Trans-Cis Isomerization

Arui Huang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated multiple photodeformable processes in anil-poly(ethylene terephthalate) systems utilizing excited-state intramolecular proton transfer and trans-cis isomerization as microscopic molecular motions under light stimulus. The doping films were able to achieve light-driven contraction and bending angle during a simple stretching process. The internal mechanism and relationship between molecular structure and photocontrolled motion were investigated through transient absorption spectra, theoretical calculations, and crystal analysis.

Summary: A series of helical coumarins based on a previously unknown core have been synthesized using a tandem process, which can be further used to prepare more rigid and helical coumarin-pyrazolones displaying green fluorescence. The fluorescence intensity of coumarin-pyrazolones in polar solvents is enhanced by the stabilization of the CT state, showing a correlation between solvatochromism and fluorescence intensity.

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of the Excited-State Proton Transfer Mechanism in 3-Hydroxyflavone Using Explicit Hydration Models

Yingchao Li et al.

Summary: This study used adiabatic on-the-fly molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the behavior of 3-Hydroxyflavon in aqueous solutions. It was found that isolated 3-HF undergoes ultrafast excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) from the enol group to the neighboring keto group. The addition of water molecules quenches this process and shows intermolecular tautomerization, while multiple water molecules inhibit the process.

Theoretical study of the mechanism of the solvent dependency of ESIPT in HBT

Keiji Naka et al.

Summary: This study used DFT and TDDFT to analyze the photochemical process of HBT in the S-1 state, revealing that the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer of the enol form of HBT depends on the solvent's hydrogen-bond acceptability, and the twisting of the keto form is determined by its role as a hydrogen-bond acceptor or donor. The specific stacking structure of the enol form was found to decrease the transition energy, corresponding to experimental fluorescence spectra in a DMSO/H2O solution mixture.
