Heterologous Expression and Application of Multicopper Oxidases from Enterococcus spp. for Degradation of Biogenic Amines

Binbin Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that overexpression of enzyme from Enterococcus spp. can effectively enhance the degradation activity of biogenic amines. The gene from E. faecalis M5B expressed in L. delbrueckii showed significantly higher degradation rates for certain amines compared to other recombinant strains. The recombinant enzyme not only degraded three amines, but also displayed high stability under alkaline conditions and high temperature.

Biogenic Amines Increase the Odds of Bacterial Vaginosis and Affect the Growth of and Lactic Acid Production by Vaginal Lactobacillus spp.

Joanna-Lynn C. Borgogna et al.

Summary: The study found a direct impact of common biogenic amines on vaginal Lactobacillus species, with increases in biogenic amines associated with the development of bacterial vaginosis (BV) and affecting the growth and lactic acid production of Lactobacillus species. Results suggest that biogenic amines play an important role in destabilizing vaginal Lactobacillus species and diminishing their protective role in the vaginal microenvironment.

Summary: KEGG is a curated resource integrating eighteen databases categorized into systems, genomic, chemical and health information, providing mapping tools for understanding cellular and organism-level functions from genome sequences and other molecular datasets. The network variation maps in the KEGG database show how different pathogens and environmental factors influence cellular signaling pathways.
