Role of binding immunoglobulin protein (BiP) in Graves' orbitopathy pathogenesis

Summary: Inflammation and adipogenesis are key mechanisms in Graves' orbitopathy (GO), with oxidative stress playing a role in pathology. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, specifically involving the chaperone protein BiP, has been found to contribute to inflammation and ROS generation in GO. Silencing BiP expression reduced inflammation, ROS levels, hyaluronan production, and adipocyte differentiation in GO orbital fibroblasts, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for GO.
