Nutritional interventions for the prevention of cognitive impairment and dementia in developing economies in East-Asia: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Andrea McGrattan et al.

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the current evidence on nutritional interventions for the prevention of dementia in developing economies in East-Asia. The review found that supplementation with essential fatty acids and micronutrients showed significant beneficial effects on specific cognitive domains, especially in older subjects with cognitive impairment. B-vitamin and essential fatty acid supplementation may represent promising strategies to minimize age-related cognitive decline in Asian populations.

Dementia Incidence in the Elderly Population of Greece: Results From the HELIAD Study

George S. Vlachos et al.

Summary: A study in Greece on the dementia incidence rate among individuals aged 65 years and above found that advancing age, baseline MCI diagnosis, and APOE-epsilon 4 homozygosity are risk factors, while higher educational attainment appears to be protective. The incidence rate in Greece is generally consistent with rates reported in Europe and North America.
