Newly identified genes contribute to vanillin tolerance inSaccharomyces cerevisiae

Zhenzhen Liang et al.

Summary: Overexpression of genes GCY1, YPR1, PEX5, and MBF1 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae can enhance tolerance to vanillin, with Gcy1p and Ypr1p showing vanillin reductase activity. This study also identified new genes related to vanillin tolerance and provided novel targets to improve vanillin tolerance in S. cerevisiae. Through investigation of gene products, it was found that the binding of Mbf1p and TBP is not necessary for the positive effect on vanillin tolerance mediated by Mbf1p.
