The research reveals the presence of both 2-fold and 3-fold icosahedral quasicrystal symmetries, as well as Moire Fringes, within the single crystal hematite nano octahedron. This nano octahedron is grown from a FeOCl (Iron oxychloride) based nucleation center, obtained through the thermal decomposition of FeCl3.6H2O in the presence of oleic acid and Urea over time.
Here, we report the existence of both 2-fold and 3-fold icosahedral quasicrystal symmetries along with the signature of Moire Fringes within the single crystal hematite nano octahedron. It is grown from the FeOCl (Iron oxychloride) based nucleation centre, obtained by the thermal decomposition of FeCl3.6H2O in the presence of oleic acid and Urea following a La Mer type crystal growth over time.
