Tension-compression asymmetry and the underlying slip/twinning activity in extruded Mg - Y sheets

D. D. Yin et al.

Summary: The addition of different concentrations of Y significantly affected the mechanical properties, grain-scale slip activity, and orientation heterogeneity of extruded Mg alloys during tension and compression. Increasing Y content led to noticeable changes in slip activity, while tension-compression asymmetry also showed variations.

The growth mechanisms of θ′ precipitate phase in an Al-Cu alloy during aging treatment

Lin Gao et al.

Summary: Through detailed analysis using atomic-scale high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy and first-principles calculations, the interfacial structures in an Al-Cu alloy after high-temperature and longtime aging have been explored. It was found that the lateral growth of theta' precipitates is influenced by several major mechanisms, and new and striking interface structures indicate two distinct atomic diffusion mechanisms for theta' precipitate growth.

The effects of tensile and compressive dwells on creep-fatigue behavior and fracture mechanism in welded joint of P92 steel

Yuxuan Song et al.

Summary: This study investigated the creep-fatigue interactions on the long-term service damage of P92 welded joint by conducting tensile and compressive tests under different applied strains. Using nanoindentation, the local mechanical properties of the welded joint were examined, while scanning electron microscope was used to analyze fracture morphologies and internal defects after CF tests, revealing the effects of holding type on the local creep behavior and fracture mechanism of the welds.

Tension-compression mechanical behavior and corresponding microstructure evolution of cast A356-T6 aluminum alloy

Baocheng Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical behavior of cast A356-T6 aluminum alloy through uniaxial tensile and compressive tests. The results show negligible asymmetry in hardening behaviors between tension and compression, but significant differences in ductility. Microcracks tend to initiate at the Si and Al matrix interface during tension, while a shift in strain accommodated mechanism is observed in compression leading to superior ductility.
