Microstructures analysis and quantitative strengthening evaluation of powder metallurgy Ti-Fe binary extruded alloys with (α plus β)-dual-phase

Junko Umeda et al.

Summary: In this study, Ti-Fe alloys were fabricated using Fe as a beta-phase stabilizer via powder metallurgy. The addition of Fe resulted in increased beta-Ti volume fraction and refined alpha-Ti grains, leading to significant improvements in tensile strength and ductility. The dominant strengthening factors for these alloys were alpha-Ti grain refinement and beta-Ti hard phase dispersion, with 50% of the yield stress increase attributable to the latter mechanism in the case of 4 wt% Fe addition.

Strengthening evaluation and high-temperature behavior of Ti-Fe-O-Cu-Si alloy

Abdollah Bahador et al.

Summary: Fully dense powder metallurgy (PM) Ti-4Fe-0.2O-3Cu-0.4Si alloy was produced using spark plasma sintering (SPS) and hot extrusion to develop an inexpensive high strength dual-phase Ti alloy. The addition of Si solute remarkably enhanced the microstructure stability and yield strength of the alloy at high temperature. The principal strengthening mechanisms were grain refinement and solid solution phenomena, leading to a comparatively higher tensile strength of the alloy compared to conventional Ti-6Al-4V alloy produced by a similar method.

A novel strategy for developing α plus β dual-phase titanium alloys with low Young's modulus and high yield strength

Yu Fu et al.

Summary: A novel strategy for developing alpha + beta dual-phase titanium alloys with low Young's modulus and high yield strength was proposed in this study, and an alloy was successfully developed through theoretical composition design and microstructure manipulation. The experimental results confirm that the developed alloy exhibits both low Young's modulus and high yield strength, indicating the potential for advanced biomedical titanium alloys with superior properties.

Summary: The influence of partial substitution of vanadium with iron and the reduction of aluminium content on the microstructure and hardness of low-cost alpha + beta titanium alloys was evaluated. The hardness of the low-cost alloys increased with iron content, but was still inferior to commercial Ti-6Al-4V alloy.
