Identification and characterization of a novel circular bacteriocin, bacicyclicin XIN-1, from Bacillus sp. Xin1

Bingyue Xin et al.

Summary: In recent years, bacteriocins have gained interest as natural food preservatives. A novel circular bacteriocin, bacicyclicin XIN-1, with high thermal stability and a wide range of antimicrobial activities against important foodborne pathogens, was isolated from Bacillus sp. Xin1 in this study. Results suggest that bacicyclicin XIN-1 has potential for use as a natural food preservative in the food industry.

Bistable Bacterial Growth Dynamics in the Presence of Antimicrobial Agents

Nelly Frenkel et al.

Summary: The impact of antibiotic treatment on bacterial growth capacity depends on the initial population size, with different drugs inducing various levels of the Inoculum Effect. This study reveals a bistable growth dynamics induced by antimicrobials, with different classes of drugs demonstrating different behaviors in rich medium. These findings provide a universal framework for understanding the dynamics of the Inoculum Effect induced by antimicrobials.

A class III bacteriocin with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity from Lactobacillus acidophilus NX2-6 and its preservation in milk and cheese

Fanqiang Meng et al.

Summary: A novel class III bacteriocin gene, NX371, was identified and expressed from Lactobacillus acidophilus with significant antimicrobial activity against various foodborne pathogens. The study demonstrated that NX371 exhibited thermal and pH stability, effectively inhibiting the growth of pathogens in milk and cheese.
