Normative Ambulatory Reflux Monitoring Metrics for Laryngopharyngeal Reflux: A Systematic Review of 720 Healthy Individuals

Jerome R. Lechien et al.

Summary: The review found substantial heterogeneity in the definitions and criteria for healthy individuals, as well as in the characterization of PRE and HRE events across studies. Future large multicenter studies are needed to establish consensual normative criteria for LPR on ambulatory reflux monitoring.

Changes of Laryngeal and Extralaryngeal Symptoms and Findings in Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Patients

Jerome R. Lechien et al.

Summary: The study assessed the evolution of laryngeal and extralaryngeal symptoms and findings of laryngopharyngeal reflux throughout a 3-month to 9-month treatment. LPR patients exhibited significant improvement in symptoms and findings throughout treatment, with laryngeal findings improving at a slower rate. About 28.1% of patients had high or complete response at 3 months posttreatment, while 47.1% required 6 months or 9 months of treatment.

The efficacy of a personalised treatment depending on the characteristics of reflux at multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH monitoring in patients with acid, non-acid and mixed laryngopharyngeal reflux

Jerome R. Lechien et al.

Summary: This study assessed the evolution of symptoms and findings of LPR patients according to the type of reflux, and found that non-acid and mixed LPR respond similarly to treatment as acid LPR. However, treatment for non-acid or mixed LPR requires specific medication to cover non-acid proximal reflux events.
