Dual CO2 Responsiveness of an Oil-In-Water Emulsion by Using Sodium Oleate and Water-Soluble Tertiary Amines

Wenjing Ma et al.

Summary: The introduction of two kinds of water-soluble tertiary amines, triethylamine and tetramethyltrimethylenedi-amine, was found to have an impact on the stability and CO2 responsiveness of oil-water emulsions. Through the conversion of TA into bicarbonate and the formation of ion pairs with NaOA, as well as the protonation of NaOA into oleic acid, the dual reactivity to carbon dioxide was demonstrated. The synergistic effect of TA and NaOA on CO2 responsiveness was further studied using various analytical techniques to investigate their contributions to emulsion stability and CO2 responsiveness.

Water-induced shape memory behavior of poly (vinyl alcohol) and p-coumaric acid-modified water-soluble chitosan blended membrane

Pradeep Kumar Panda et al.

Summary: In this study, p-coumaric acid-modified water-soluble chitosan (M-Cs) and poly (vinyl alcohol) blended membrane (PVA/M-Cs) were successfully prepared to enhance the water-induced shape memory behavior, with a shape recovery ratio reaching nearly 100%. The addition of M-Cs into the PVA polymer matrix not only improved the shape memory behavior but also decreased the water contact angle value.

Stiff-Stilbene-Bridged Biscalix[4]arene as a Highly Light-Responsive Supramolecular Gelator

Dagninet Yeshiwas Alene et al.

Summary: A newly designed stiff-stilbene functionalized biscalix[4]arene can be near-quantitatively photoswitched from its cis form to the trans-isomer under 385 nm UV light, forming a supergelator in nonpolar organic solvents. The cis-trans configurational isomerism of the biscalix[4]arene leads to distinct self-assembly modes and interesting morphological changes.

A tertiary amine group-based organogelator with pH-trigger recyclable property†

Dan Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, an organogelator with pH-triggered recyclable property was developed, allowing the separation and recovery of organic solvents/oil and organogelator. This new approach provides a promising solution for the recovery of leaked organic solvents/oil by utilizing organogelators with pH responsiveness.
