Can no-till restore soil organic carbon to levels under natural vegetation in a subtropical and tropical Typic Quartzipisamment?

Ademir de Oliveira Ferreira et al.

Summary: The study found that the adoption of no-till system along with intensive cropping and high carbon input is an effective strategy for organic carbon restoration in sandy soils.

Dynamics of soil aggregate-associated organic carbon based on diversity and high biomass-C input under conservation agriculture in a savanna ecosystem in Cambodia

Lyda Hok et al.

Summary: This study explored the impact of no-till cropping systems on soil aggregation and carbon sequestration under different crop rotations. The results indicated that biannual crop rotations were more effective in restoring large macroaggregates and increasing the concentrations of organic carbon, total nitrogen, and oxidizable carbon associated with macroaggregates.

Intensification of no-till agricultural systems: An opportunity for carbon sequestration

Rodrigo S. Nicoloso et al.

Summary: Global meta-analysis results show that no-till soils outperform tilled soils in storing soil organic carbon and total nitrogen, particularly when associated with increased crop frequency and legume cover crops. Double-cropping systems may decrease soil total nitrogen, but the use of legumes can alleviate this loss and support soil carbon sequestration.

Mechanical and biological chiseling impacts on soil organic C stocks, root growth, and crop yield in a long-term no-till system

Thiago Massao Inagaki et al.

Summary: The study compared no-till systems without mechanical disturbance, with mechanical chiseling, and with biological chiseling using radish as an intercrop. Results showed that mechanical chiseling depleted SOC stocks, while using radish as an intercrop increased SOC stocks, root development, and crop yield.
