The fate of patients with REM sleep behavior disorder and mild cognitive impairment

Dario Arnaldi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the clinical and dopaminergic pre-synaptic brain imaging characteristics of iRBD patients with MCI, and evaluated the combined predictive value of risk factors for conversion to synucleinopathy within about three years. Patients with iRBD-MCI showed more severe dopaminergic neuroimaging and clinical phenotype. Combining clinical and neuroimaging markers can effectively identify iRBD patients at high risk of developing synucleinopathy within a short timeframe.

Significance of hyposmia in isolated REM sleep behavior disorder

Alex Iranzo et al.

Summary: In isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (IRBD), hyposmia is a short-term risk factor for synucleinopathies but cannot distinguish underlying PD from DLB. Normal smell not only occurs in latent MSA, but also in latent PD and DLB. Serial evaluations of smell showed no changes with time.

Magnetic resonance imaging abnormalities as a marker of multiple system atrophy in isolated rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder

Amaia Munoz-Lopetegi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of MRI in detecting abnormalities in IRBD and predict the development of MSA. The results showed that specific MRI changes of MSA may be detected in its premotor stage, and MRI had a certain sensitivity and specificity in predicting conversion to MSA.

Immunohistochemical Detection of Synuclein Pathology in Skin in Idiopathic Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disorder and Parkinsonism

Ahmed Al-Qassabi et al.

Summary: The study developed and tested an automated bright-field immunohistochemical assay for cutaneous pathological alpha-synuclein deposition in patients with idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder, PD, and atypical parkinsonism. Results showed that skin biopsy could be used to diagnose both clinical and prodromal PD.

Detection of α-synuclein in CSF by RT-QuIC in patients with isolated rapid-eye-movement sleep behaviour disorder: a longitudinal observational study

Alex Iranzo et al.

Summary: The study found that RT-QuIC can detect misfolded alpha-synuclein in the CSF of patients with IRBD with both high sensitivity and specificity, indicating that detection of alpha-synuclein may serve as an early marker for Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies.

Ambra Stefani et al.

Summary: RT-QuIC detection of alpha-synuclein aggregates in olfactory mucosa showed a linkage between alpha-synuclein pathology and olfactory dysfunction in patients with isolated RBD and Parkinson's disease, indicating a potential for early detection and preventive therapies.

Four-YearFollow-upof [18F]Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography-Based Parkinson's Disease-Related Pattern Expression in 20 Patients With Isolated Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disorder Shows Prodromal Progression

Rosalie Kogan et al.

Summary: This study found that 70% of subjects with isolated rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder exhibited significant PD-related brain pattern expression, and the expression of this pattern increased in all subjects over time. Additionally, 20% of subjects with significant baseline PD-related brain pattern expression progressed to clinical PD during the follow-up period.
