Machine Learning in Aging: An Example of Developing Prediction Models for Serious Fall Injury in Older Adults

Jaime Lynn Speiser et al.

Summary: Advancements in computational algorithms and large datasets have enabled the development of machine learning prediction models for older adults, though challenges remain in terms of reproducibility and algorithm complexity. Decision tree and random forest are common machine learning methods with high interpretability, making them suitable for clinical application. However, careful consideration and evaluation by clinical experts are necessary to ensure the compatibility and reliability of the models in clinical practice.

A random forest method with feature selection for developing medical prediction models with clustered and longitudinal data

Jaime Lynn Speiser

Summary: This study is the first investigation of feature selection for developing random forest prediction models for clustered and longitudinal binary outcomes. Results suggest that BiMM forest with backward elimination may be beneficial for developing medical prediction models due to its highest accuracy and efficiency compared to other methods.
