The Effects of Magnesium Supplementation on Blood Pressure and Obesity Measure Among Type 2 Diabetes Patient: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Omid Asbaghi et al.

Summary: The study found that magnesium (Mg) supplementation has limited effects on body weight and obesity measures in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but can significantly reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure in these patients. Subgroup analysis suggested that Mg supplementation for more than 12 weeks, at doses higher than 300 mg/day or inorganic forms, could be particularly effective in reducing blood pressure in T2DM patients. Further research is needed to provide more reliable evidence on the benefits of Mg supplementation for this patient population.

The Effects of Magnesium Supplementation on Lipid Profile Among Type 2 Diabetes Patients: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Omid Asbaghi et al.

Summary: Magnesium supplementation significantly reduces serum LDL levels in type 2 diabetes patients, with no effect on TG, TC, and HDL levels. Supplementing with magnesium for more than 12 weeks leads to a significant decrease in TC levels, while a dose of less than 300 mg decreases LDL concentrations and over 300 mg increases HDL levels significantly. Inorganic magnesium supplementation reduces LDL and TC levels, while organic magnesium supplementation shows no difference.

The effects of chromium supplementation on lipidprofile in humans: A systematic review and meta-analysis ofrandomized controlled trials

Mohammad Javad Tarrahi et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found a significant association between chromium supplementation and decreases in total cholesterol levels, as well as significant lowering effects on triglycerides and very low-density lipoproteins, especially in short-term and low-dose supplementation scenarios. Further randomized controlled trials in individuals with diabetes are needed to confirm the lipid-modulating properties of chromium supplementation.
