This study presents an analysis of the depth of penetration (DoP) experimental data of Dyneema (R) HB26 hard ballistic laminates using an energy approach. Several DoP experimental parameters have been identified and calculated, and a simple penetration model has been developed to predict the projectile motion and penetration resistance force during DoP experiments.
Analysis of depth of penetration (DoP) experimental data of Dyneema (R) HB26 hard ballistic laminates is presented using an energy approach. Several DoP experimental parameters have been identified and calculated including the threshold velocity of penetration (V-TH), the characteristic time (tau(Dop)), the DoP damping coefficient (c(Dop)), and the dynamic pressure per unit impact speed (Sigma(H)(Dop)). For the first time, a simple penetration model is developed from the energy approach to predict the projectile motion and penetration resistance force during depth of penetration experiments.
