Discretized Conical Waves in Multimode Optical Fibers

Bertrand Kibler et al.

Summary: Multimode optical fibers play a crucial role in bridging nonlinear optics and single-mode fibers, but the transition between the two fields remains complex due to intermodal nonlinear processes and spatiotemporal couplings. Generalizing the concept of conical waves described in bulk media to structured media such as multimode optical fibers could lead to the discovery of different forms of dispersion-engineered conical emission and super-continuum light bullets in future experiments.

Space-time wave packets violate the universal relationship between angular dispersion and pulse-front tilt

Layton A. Hall et al.

Summary: This study introduces how angular dispersion affects the tilt of the pulse front, and reveals that propagation-invariant space-time wave packets violate the relationship between angular dispersion and pulse-front tilt, representing a non-conventional phenomenon in optics.

Engineering the Optical Vacuum: Arbitrary Magnitude, Sign, and Order of Dispersion in Free Space Using Space-Time Wave Packets

Murat Yessenov et al.

Summary: This study shows that precise and versatile control over the dispersion profile of space-time wave packets can be achieved in free space, allowing for arbitrary dispersion profiles that are unattainable in optical materials. Unlike optical materials, different dispersion orders can be addressed separately using this strategy.

Spatiotemporal Helicon Wavepackets

Pierre Bejot et al.

Summary: This study introduces a four-dimensional spatiotemporal approach that extends and unifies the concepts of conical waves and helicon beams in optics, revealing the structure and properties of propagation-invariant space-time wavepackets. This approach could find broad applications in optics and other branches of physics, showing the potential for exploring spiraling wavepackets with topological properties in three dimensions.

Measures of space-time nonseparability of electromagnetic pulses

Yijie Shen et al.

Summary: Electromagnetic pulses, once seen as separable solutions of Maxwell's equations, are now being explored for their potential in energy and information transfer due to recent advances in structured light and topological optics. A quantum mechanics-inspired methodology has been proposed to quantitatively characterize the nonseparability of structured pulses in space-time, demonstrating the potential of nonseparable pulses as information carriers.
