Three-dimensional phase field sintering simulations accounting for the rigid-body motion of individual grains

Robert Termuhlen et al.

Summary: Sintering is a widely used powder processing technique in industrial applications, where atoms migrate to decrease the system energy through coarsening and densification mechanisms, resulting in significant morphological variation of the sintered microstructure. When simulating sintering dynamics, the phase-field method is commonly used for tracking morphology evolution, but there are challenges in handling the rigid-body motion of individual grains during densification.

Exploring the relationship between solvent-assisted ball milling, particle size, and sintering temperature in garnet-type solid electrolytes

Marissa Wood et al.

Summary: This study systematically explores the relationship between solvent choice, particle properties, sintering behavior, and ionic conductivity, finding that milling in aprotic solvents with surfactant can reduce particle size without lithium loss, enabling fabrication of dense samples with good ionic conductivity at lower sintering temperatures. The results clarify the importance of processing parameters and represent significant progress towards overcoming fabrication challenges for garnet-type solid electrolytes.

Efficiency enhancement of low-cost metal free dye sensitized solar cells via non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma surface treatment

Janith Weerasinghe et al.

Summary: In this study, plasma treatment was used to enhance the performance of SnO2 photoanodes in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), with nitrogen plasma treatment leading to a 4 times enhancement in power conversion efficiency. This demonstrates a promising one-pot treatment method for efficiency enhancement in various applications such as photovoltaic, catalytic, and energy generation applications.
