Chemical reaction between lead-free multicomponent alkali borosilicate glass frit and hematite during heat treatment

Hideki Hashimoto et al.

Summary: The interaction between a lead-free multicomponent alkali borosilicate glass frit containing zinc ions and hematite during heat treatment was found to be crucial for controlling the color of red overglaze enamels. The iron and zinc ions reacted to form zinc ferrite, which contributed to enhanced crystal growth through Ostwald ripening. Future challenges include developing a frit with low reactivity towards hematite through precise control of physical properties.
