Enabling 6C Fast Charging of Li-Ion Batteries with Graphite/Hard Carbon Hybrid Anodes

Kuan-Hung Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that by fabricating hybrid anodes with uniform mixtures of graphite and hard carbon, it is possible to achieve high-energy density and efficient fast charging in Li-ion batteries. The optimized hybrid anodes retain significantly higher specific energy after 500 cycles of fast charging compared to graphite anodes under the same conditions, making them a promising solution for electric vehicles.

Pulse resistance based online temperature estimation for lithium-ion cells

S. Ludwig et al.

Summary: It is crucial to understand the temperature distribution within a battery pack for its impact on capacity loss, power degradation, and safety. This study introduces a novel sensorless method for determining the temperature of a cell by exploiting the relationship between the cell's overpotential and temperature. Through analysis of reference pulses, it is shown that a Δt in the 10 ms to 100 ms range has the greatest sensitivity to temperature and the least dependence on other parameters.

A Comparison of Lithium-Ion Cell Performance across Three Different Cell Formats

Grace Bridgewater et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of different cell formats on lithium-ion cells, finding that stacked pouch cells showed higher discharge capacities at higher rates compared to coin and single layer pouch cells. Different formats exhibited differences in degradation mechanisms, possibly due to varying thermal and mechanical environments. Development within a single cell format may lead to improvements across all cell formats.
