Shifts in office and virtual primary care during the early COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario, Canada

Summary: The study found that there was a significant shift in primary care in Ontario from office to virtual care during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a 28.0% decrease in total visits. However, total visits in rural areas increased by 6.4%. The smallest declines in visits were seen among older adults and patients with higher expected health care use. Virtual care made up a significant portion of primary care physician visits, but uptake was lower among children, rural residents, and physicians with more patients.

Informal caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic perceive additional burden: findings from an ad-hoc survey in Germany

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, some informal caregivers experienced significantly worsened care situations, especially those caring for individuals with dementia or who rely on professional help normally. Factors such as age, excessive demands, implementation issues of COVID-19 measures, increased caregiving by caregivers themselves, lack of support were related to the level of care involvement. Structural support from the healthcare system is needed for caregivers who perceive extensive care burden.

Evaluating access to health and care services during lockdown by the COVID-19 survey in five UK national longitudinal studies

Ethnic minorities and individuals with chronic illnesses required more care hours during the lockdown. Socioeconomic position was not associated with cancellation or care hours, and age was not independently associated with the outcomes.

Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Outpatient Providers in the United States

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, outpatient visits significantly decreased, reaching a peak reduction of 70% per provider during the week of April 5-11, 2020. However, total outpatient visits rebounded completely and remained stable as of July 26 to August 1, 2020, despite the resurgence of COVID-19 in June and July.
