The human milk oligosaccharides 2'-fucosyllactose and 6'-sialyllactose protect against the development of necrotizing enterocolitis by inhibiting toll-like receptor 4 signaling

Summary: The study showed that human milk oligosaccharides 2'-FL and 6'-SL can prevent NEC through inhibition of TLR4 signaling, while lactose cannot. The results indicate that these HMOs reduced NEC occurrence in mouse and piglet models.

Pathway Optimization of 2′-Fucosyllactose Production in Engineered Escherichia coli

Summary: In this study, the de novo and salvage pathways for GDP-fucose synthesis were engineered and optimized in E. coli, leading to increased 2'-FL production. By fine-tuning the expression of related genes, along with the introduction of fucT2 gene, the final engineered strains produced 2.62 and 14.1 g/L of 2'-FL in shake-flask and fed-batch cultivations, respectively.
