Polyamide-coated wooden tips coupled to direct infusion mass spectrometry, a high throughput alternative for the determination of methadone, cocaine and methamphetamine in oral fluid

Jaime Millan-Santiago et al.

Summary: The use of natural materials such as wooden tips with a porous structure coated with nylon 6 is proposed for the extraction of drugs of abuse from oral fluid samples. This method allows for simultaneous extraction of multiple samples and provides high sample throughput with detection limits of 1.5 μg L-1 for methamphetamine. Precision values were better than 9.1%, 12.6%, and 18.2% for methadone, cocaine, and methamphetamine respectively, with an accuracy range from 86% to 103%.

Carbon fibers as green and sustainable sorbent for the extraction of isoflavones from environmental waters

Juan L. Benede et al.

Summary: A rapid, green, and sustainable method for determining four isoflavones in environmental waters using in-syringe dispersive solid-phase extraction with carbon fibers as extraction material is presented. The method overcomes previous drawbacks and allows for in situ extraction, demonstrating feasibility and applicability in environmental water samples.

White Analytical Chemistry: An approach to reconcile the principles of Green Analytical Chemistry and functionality

Pawel Mateusz Nowak et al.

Summary: The concept of White Analytical Chemistry (WAC) extends from Green Analytical Chemistry (GAC) with 12 WAC principles proposed as an alternative to the known 12 GAC principles. WAC considers key criteria affecting the quality of the method, including analytical and practical aspects, aiming for coherence and synergy of analytical, ecological, and practical attributes.

Unmodified cellulose filter paper, a sustainable and affordable sorbent for the isolation of biogenic amines from beer samples

M. C. Diaz-Linan et al.

Summary: Current trends in Green Analytical Chemistry focus on simplifying sample treatment, but food matrices are often too complex for direct analysis. Biogenic amines, formed naturally in food products, have health implications. This study simplified the extraction of biogenic amines from beer samples using laboratory filter paper and direct infusion mass spectrometry, leading to efficient analysis.

Partially carbonized cellulose filter paper as a green adsorbent for the extraction of pesticides from fruit juices

Mehri Bakhshizadeh Aghdam et al.

Summary: A new solid phase extraction method using low-cost partially carbonized cellulose filter paper as a sorbent, combined with dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction, was developed for extracting pesticide residues from fruit juice samples prior to gas chromatography-flame ionization detection. The method showed good sensitivity and accuracy, with detection and quantification limits in the range of 0.30-0.61 and 1.0-2.0 μg/L, respectively.

Magnetic paper-based sorptive phase for enhanced mass transference in stir membrane environmental samplers

Francisco Antonio Casado-Carmona et al.

Summary: This article introduces the synthesis and application of a magnetic paper-based sorptive phase, which combines the sorption capacity of polyamide with the magnetic behavior of silica shielded Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The material is capable of extracting parabens and tri-closan from swimming pool water samples, with the convenience of easy transportation and on-site extraction. This innovation has the potential to simplify the analytical process by only transporting the sorptive phases, rather than the actual samples, to the lab for final analysis.

A fast and effective approach for the discrimination of garlic origin using wooden-tip electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and multivariate classification

Hebert Pereira et al.

Summary: This study utilized wooden-tip electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (WTESI-MS) and multivariate pattern recognition methods for the discrimination of garlic origin through chemical fingerprints without the need for sample preparation, achieving good results. It was found that the best performance was achieved in the positive ion mode, with most ions in the mass spectra belonging to amino acids, sugars, organosulfur compounds, and lipids.
