Circuit Analysis of Ionizing Surface Potential Measurements of Electrolyte Solutions

Tehseen Adel et al.

Summary: Surface potential measurement values at gas-liquid interfaces can be ambiguous due to lack of standardization in calibration and normalization methods. The proposed circuit model based on americium-241 demonstrates reliability in quantifying surface potential. Validation with surface tension measurements further confirms the accuracy of the ionizing method.

Bulk Phase Behavior vs Interface Adsorption: Specific Multivalent Cation and Anion Effects on BSA Interactions

Madeleine R. Fries et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of different salts on the behavior of proteins (BSA), revealing that multivalent cations induced phase transitions, while the type of anions determined the protein behavior. Experimental findings showed that iodide ions can promote liquid-liquid phase separation and prevent re-entrant condensation in the system, with phase transitions at the interface triggered by specific interface properties.

Breaking and Making of Water Structure at the Air/Water-Electrolyte (NaXO3; X = Cl, Br, I) Interface

Subhadip Roy et al.

Summary: Research shows that ions have a strong correlation with the structure of hydrogen bonding at the air/water interface and in bulk water. Specifically, structure-breaking anions decrease hydrogen bonding at the interface, while structure-making anions have the opposite effect. None of the electrolytes studied significantly affect the orientation of water molecules at the interface.

From Surface Tension to Molecular Distribution: Modeling Surfactant Adsorption at the Air-Water Interface

Mengsu Peng et al.

Summary: Surfactants play a central role in various scientific and engineering fields, but understanding their behavior at the air-water interface still presents challenges. Research focuses on accurately describing the adsorption layer thickness of surfactants in this area. The modified Poisson-Boltzmann model has been developed to address the effects of surfactants at the air-water interface, with remaining challenges and future research directions also discussed.

Interfacial, Electroviscous, and Nonlinear Dielectric Effects on Electrokinetics at Highly Charged Surfaces

Majid Rezaei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the difference in dielectric constant and viscosity of water at the interface of hydrophilic surfaces compared to their bulk values, and suggests that the deviation is not caused by the electric field and ion concentration. The anomalous behavior of aqueous interfacial layers is primarily attributed to the intrinsic ordering and orientation of the interfacial water layer.
