Curvature effects on electric-double-layer capacitance

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: Understanding the microstructure and thermodynamic properties of electrode/electrolyte interfaces is crucial for the design of EDLCs. This study uses CDFT to investigate spherical electric double layers within a coarse-grained model and correlates capacitance performance with electrode curvature, surface potential, and electrolyte concentration using a regression-tree model. The combination of CDFT with machine-learning methods presents a promising framework for computationally screening porous electrodes and novel electrolytes.

Operando optical tracking of single-particle ion dynamics in batteries

Alice J. Merryweather et al.

Summary: The key to advancing lithium-ion battery technology, especially fast charging, lies in understanding dynamic processes in functioning materials under realistic conditions in real time. A laboratory-based optical interferometric scattering microscope was introduced to study nanoscopic lithium-ion dynamics in battery materials, allowing for high-throughput material screening. This methodology was applied to study various processes in battery materials, providing insights into battery degradation mechanisms.
