Possible Mechanisms and Origin of Selectivities for Phosphine-Catalyzed [2+n] (n=3, 4) Annulations of Saturated Amines and δ-Acetoxy Allenoates

Ting-Ting Yang et al.

Summary: The density functional theory calculations provided insights into the mechanisms and selectivity origins of phosphine-catalyzed [2+3] and [2+4] annulations. The results indicated a preference for allenoate as a C3 synthon under phosphine catalysis, with the catalytic cycle involving eight key processes. Additionally, non-covalent interactions were found to significantly contribute to the stability of the transition state, influencing the chemo- and stereo-selectivities of the reaction.

Multiple Functional Organocatalyst-Promoted Inert C-C Activation: Mechanism and Origin of Selectivities

Min Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes an NHC and NHC center dot H+ cooperative catalytic model for inert C-C bond activations, and uses density functional theory calculations to discover two ways in which the organocatalyst functions in [4 + 2] annulation reactions. It also introduces an atomic electronegativity index to predict the site of stereoselective C-C bond formation accurately.

Hydroboration Reaction and Mechanism of Carboxylic Acids using NaNH2(BH3)2, a Hydroboration Reagent with Reducing Capability between NaBH4 and LiAlH4

Jin Wang et al.

Summary: The hydroboration reactions of carboxylic acids using sodium aminodiboranate (NaNH2[BH3](2), NaADBH) to form primary alcohols were systematically investigated, demonstrating that NaADBH is a promising reducing agent due to its stability and efficiency. The reduction mechanism was elucidated experimentally and computationally, with intermediates and byproducts identified through B-11 and H-1 NMR. The reactions exhibit excellent yields and good selectivity, providing alternative synthetic approaches for the conversion of carboxylic acids to primary alcohols with a wide range of functional group tolerance.

Insight into the organocatalytic arylation of azonaphthalenes with α-chloroaldehydes: the general mechanism and origin of selectivities

Xinghua Wang et al.

Summary: A systematic computational study was conducted to investigate the mechanism and origin of selectivities in the organocatalytic arylation of azonaphthalenes with alpha-chloroaldehydes. The results indicate that the nucleophilicity of active sites and hydrogen bonds play crucial roles in regulating the chemo- and stereoselectivities, and N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) is identified as a multiple functional base (MFB) catalyst in this system for the first time.

Predicting the origin of selectivity in NHC-catalyzed ring opening of formylcyclopropane: a theoretical investigation

Yang Wang et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory, this study investigated the origin of selectivity in the N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed reaction and proposed a reaction mechanism, highlighting the important role of NHC in catalysis. The findings provide insights into predicting the chemoselectivity of reactions involving cyclopropane rings.
